How to add your full name to a local account on Windows 10?

When you set up a device with a local account you notice that the sign in screen and desktop only displays your account name instead of your full name specially when using a Microsoft account. It’s because during the local account creation process you are not sure how to add this information neither there is any option in the settings app to edit your account. Though it’s simply your choice the way you want your Windows PC to display your name but if you are interested then follow the steps below.
To display your full name on your local account get any of the three ways to do it on Windows 10 using Control Panel, Command Prompt, and even PowerShell.

- Select the local account that you want to edit and click the Properties button.
- Type the name and last name as you want them to appear in the Sign-in screen using the “Full name” field.
- Now click the Apply button and click the OK button.
- Once you complete the steps, you can see the full name reflected in the Start profile context menu, Accounts settings page, and in the Sign-in screen.

You can work this on Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 as well.

Using Settings
If you’re using a Microsoft account to sign in to Windows 10, the account pulls down the name you see on the sign-in screen from the cloud. If you want to change the account name, you’ll need to update your account settings by following steps
- First Open Settings and Click on Accounts. Now click on Your info and Click the Manage my Microsoft account option.
- Under the current account name, click the More options menu.
- Next select the Edit profile option.
- Under the current account name, click the Edit name option
- Change your name and last name as needed.
If you want to make your information a little more private, you can opt to use the first six letters of your name and the first two letters of your last name.
Answer the captcha challenge to confirm that you’re not a robot and then Click the Save button.
Now Restart your device. Once you complete the steps, the name on the Sign-in screen will be updated with the new changes. However, you may need to allow some time before the changes sync and apply to all your devices.
Although using the Microsoft account settings is a convenient way to change your account name across your devices, keep in mind that these instructions will also update the name and last name that appears in your email account and other Microsoft services.
